All-ages EP launch show by Newcastle alt-metal artist Maple's Pet Dinosaur, with live bands, at Tower Cinema.
Maple's Pet Dinosaur is launching her debut EP, Child's Play, at Tower Cinema in Newcastle this Friday, 30 October. It's a one-off, all-ages show, so it's one of those nights where you can bring the younger ones along rather than leaving them at home.
If you've missed the rise, Maple's Pet Dinosaur is a 16-year-old Newcastle alt-metal artist who hit it big with her debut single 'Lego'. The music video was shot on a Ring doorbell camera with zero budget, and it went on to become the most-viewed Instagram music video reel ever by an Australian-born artist, with more than 60 million views. Since then, she's become the youngest artist to tour at Australia's Good Things festival, sharing stages with the likes of TOOL, Weezer and Garbage, and drawing attention from NME, Rolling Stone and Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst.
Child's Play is out through Warner Music Australia and In Bloom, and it blends '90s alt-metal with emotive vocals and a VHS-horror aesthetic. That horror influence comes from early '90s pop culture, which is why she chose a cinema for the launch. The record also leans into the Melvins-style grind of the track 'Ice Cream Truck', so expect some heavy, slow-burning moments alongside the more melodic stuff.

She's not playing alone, either. The bill includes Trophy Wyfe, Filthy E, the Clean Teens and Bardvarkk, so there's a full line-up to work through before she takes the stage. The show starts at 7:00 pm at Tower Cinema, 183 King Street, with general admission at A$28.60, or A$56.10 if you want to pick up a copy of Child's Play on CD at the same time.
