Live improvised jazz performances in an intimate venue, presented by the Newcastle Improvised Music Association Inc.
Live jazz returns to The Underground on Tuesday 6 October, and it's not just a one-off — it's part of a run that keeps going every Tuesday night through the end of the year. The dates are 6, 13, 20 and 27 October; 3, 10, 17 and 24 November; and 1, 8, 15 and 22 December. Music starts at 8pm each time.
The venue is The Underground, inside The Grand Hotel at 32 Church Street, Newcastle. On these Tuesday nights, the organisers say it turns into an intimate listening room, one they liken to a New York jazz club of the 1920s. The music is high-calibre improvised jazz, with musicians coming from near and far to play.
The series is presented by the Newcastle Improvised Music Association Inc (NIMA) together with The Grand Hotel. If you're after something a bit more open, Thursday nights are reserved for jazz jams, so there's a different side to the week if you want to get involved rather than just listen.
