Exhibition of painting and ceramics by Lynnette Passeri and Elizabeth Mead at Back to Back Galleries, exploring the connection between line, movement, gesture and form.
Lynnette Passeri and Elizabeth Mead are showing together at Back to Back Galleries from 4 to 18 October, with the exhibition titled Life and Line – Breath, Gesture, Earth. It brings painting and ceramics into the same room, and the two mediums hold their own side by side.
Passeri works in painting, Mead in ceramics, and the show is built around the things they share: line, movement, gesture and form. You'll see the flowing lines of clay in the ceramics and the marks across the painted surfaces, and in both, there's a clear sense of the hand and the material at work. The exhibition is managed by Newcastle Studio Potters Inc. and Back to Back Galleries.
Between the two, the show sets up a conversation between earth and air, control and chance, and the marks left behind. It's a good way to see how two different practices can end up talking about the same things. The ceramics bring the earth, the painting the air, and the gesture is what ties them together.
