Country and Americana concert by Oklahoma artist Kaitlin Butts, part of her 2026-2027 Australian tour.
Kaitlin Butts plays the Newcastle Foreshore Footpath on Saturday 17 October, her only date in the city during her 2026-2027 tour. It's a long way from her home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she's based, and the Newcastle show is one of 14 dates she's playing across 10 cities over the course of the tour.
Butts works in country and Americana, and the set she's touring pulls from a few different directions. There's the 'Cosmic Cowgirl' side of things—the infectious, upbeat stuff that sits on the danceable end of the spectrum—and then the tearjerkers, the slower songs that lean into the heartbreak side of the genre. In between, she does hard-bitten murder ballads, those dark, narrative country songs that trade in crime and consequence. It's a fair bit of ground to cover in one set, but that's the range she's known for.
Critics describe her as a quick-witted storyteller with a knack for character and narrative, performing with an Oklahoma twang and a wry grin. She's backed on stage by a talented fiddler, and she's drawn praise for her voice, her storytelling and her retro classic country style. The whole thing sits firmly in the tradition of the genre, but with her own particular take on it.
