An aerobic dance class and performance art session led by Betty Grumble, blending ritual movement, cabaret and storytelling.
Betty Grumble brings her aerobic dance class, Grumble Boogie, to Watt Space Gallery on Tuesday 29 September, with two sessions running that day: one at 5:30pm and another at 7:00pm. It's an hour-long dance meditation and heart pump built around the idea of 'Thank You Body', and it welcomes all levels of movement, so you don't need to be a dancer to get involved.
The session blends ritual movement, cabaret-style panache, performance art and storytelling. It's led by Emma Maye Gibson, who works under the name Betty Grumble. She's a Warrane/Sydney-based storyteller and performance artist whose practice sits at the intersection of ritual theatre, autobiography, cabaret and multi-media. A proud Ecosexual and a 2025 Performance Space Fellow, she holds a Masters in Fine Arts from UNSW and has presented at the Sydney Opera House, Glastonbury, the Edinburgh Fringe, MoMA and Joe's Pub in New York, as well as the Sydney Biennale.
She's also one half of the performance collective Body of Work, which she runs with Dr Charlotte Farrell, and she works under the guidance of mentors Dr Annie Sprinkle, Elizabeth Burton and Victoria Spence. The session is recommended for adults and young people aged 15 and over.
