Award-winning comedian and podcaster Em Rusciano returns to the stage with her new live show, 'Addicted to Love', blending powerful vocals and biting comedy.
Em Rusciano brings her new show, Addicted to Love, to the Civic Theatre on Friday 4 September. It's her return to the stage as a live performer, and the tour follows a debut season at the Darwin Comedy Festival and a near sold-out run at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
If you're not familiar with her work, Rusciano is an award-winning performer, comedian, author and podcaster. She's best known for her chart-topping podcast Emsolation, her memoir Blood, Sweat And Glitter, and her widely-lauded address at the National Press Club. Addicted to Love is presented as Rusciano at her most unfiltered, romantic, feral and finely tuned, blending powerhouse vocals, biting comedy and unflinching honesty. It's a show that draws on her reputation for saying the things women are taught to swallow, and it tackles a lifetime of conditioning and the pursuit of romantic love and external validation.
So, it's a mix of stand-up and singing, with the comedy and the music working together rather than as separate acts. The whole thing sits around those themes of love and validation, and it's the same unfiltered approach she's built her reputation on. If you've followed her podcast or read the memoir, you'll recognise the voice she brings to the stage here.
