Australian country and Americana artist Ella Hooper performs live on her 'The Overnight Success Tour' at The Stag & Hunter Hotel.
Ella Hooper plays the Stag & Hunter Hotel on Thursday 8 October, part of her The Overnight Success Tour. She'll be backed by a live band that includes fiddle, electric guitar and three-piece vocal harmonies, with Melbourne artist Ruby Mae joining her on all the tour dates.
Most of us first knew Hooper as the frontwoman of Killing Heidi, the bush-town band that broke out in the early 2000s with a string of hit singles, a number-one album and sold-out tours. She was the first woman and youngest person to win APRA's Songwriter of the Year. Since then, her solo work has moved through synth folk and rock into country and Americana, and she's a familiar face on TV and radio from Spicks And Specks, RockWiz and the ABC docuseries HEADLiNERS.
Her album Small Town Temple came from a heavy place: she wrote it in her hometown of Violet Town after losing both parents to cancer within two weeks. It debuted at number one on the Australian Country chart and earned an Australian Music Prize nomination. These days she's recording in Nashville with Grammy-winning country figures like Jim Lauderdale, Steve Poltz and Melody Walker, and she describes her live shows as drawing on the sounds of Bonnie Raitt and Linda Ronstadt with a modern, cheeky twist.
