Don Giovanni

Opera Australia brings Mozart's Don Giovanni to the Civic Theatre on Friday 20 August, as part of their National Tour. It's a production that takes the company's mainstage work on the road to regional centres across the country, and Newcastle is one of the stops.

If you're not familiar with the story, Don Giovanni follows opera's most notorious anti-hero through the final day of his life. It's a plot built on seduction, danger and a dramatic reckoning that catches up with him in the end. The production is sung in Italian with English subtitles, so you'll be able to follow the story even if you don't speak the language.

One of the local touches to this particular run is the inclusion of the Regional Children's Chorus — The Hunter Trebles, who'll be performing alongside the touring company. It's a nice bit of local involvement in a production that's otherwise travelling from city to city.

The Civic Theatre is at 375 Hunter Street in the city centre, and they describe it as the heart and soul of live performance in Newcastle. Tickets range from A$64 to A$80, depending on where you sit.
