A hands-on beginner ceramic painting workshop where participants paint traditional ceramic bowls using ancient techniques, with materials and Turkish tea service provided.
Art Masterclass is running a ceramic painting class at the Mercure Newcastle on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August, in the Hunter Room at 12 Steel St, Newcastle West. It's a beginner session, so you don't need any prior experience to jump in.
During the class, you'll paint traditional ceramic bowls using techniques that date back to the 8th century. There are expert instructors on hand to walk you through it, and all the materials are provided, so you just turn up. One of the best bits is that no kiln is needed—you take your finished bowl home with you on the day. Art Masterclass is a boutique art studio that runs traditional craft workshops across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and this is one of their sessions coming to Newcastle.

It's not all painting, either. Each workshop includes a Turkish tea service with treats and homemade Turkish delight, so there's a bit of eating and drinking to go along with the art. The class is pitched as a fun, hands-on activity for anyone looking for something to do in the city, and the venue welcomes people with access needs. Tickets range from A$89 to A$109.
