A hilarious and heartfelt stand-up show based on the comedian's real-life experience of being charged as a teenager with inciting a riot.
Brett Blake brings his show Little Turd to the Civic Theatre on Thursday 30 July, a night built around a story he lived through. The whole thing comes from 2002, when Blake was sixteen and got charged with inciting a riot, disorderly conduct, and assaulting a public officer — a combination that carried a maximum ten-year prison sentence. That's the starting point for the hour, and from there he works his way through the fallout: the importance of second chances, the hypocritical expectations we hold young people to, and how the person you think is your number one enemy can end up being your biggest champion.
It's a stand-up show, but the story is the thing that holds it together. Blake spent 2025 touring Little Turd to sold-out crowds across Australia, took it over to the Edinburgh Fringe, and picked up a nomination for best show at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. He also walked away with the Weekly Award at the Adelaide Fringe that same year, so it's a run that's been gathering a fair bit of momentum before it lands here in Newcastle. The show is directed by Tom Ballard.

If you haven't come across him yet, Blake has been popping up in a few different places over the last couple of years. He appeared on the 2024 Melbourne Comedy Festival Gala, as well as Question Everything and Spicks and Specks, and he co-hosts the Work Hates podcast. Little Turd is the one he's been touring, though, and it's the one he'll be performing at the Civic. Tickets are A$35.
