The Australian Chamber Orchestra presents an all-Beethoven programme featuring the Coriolan Overture, Triple Concerto and Symphony No.6 'Pastoral', conducted by Richard Tognetti.
The Australian Chamber Orchestra are at Newcastle City Hall on Thursday 12 November, with an all-Beethoven programme that marks the finale of their 2026 National Concert Season. It's a big night for the ACO, and they've put together three distinct works to close out the year.
The evening opens with the Coriolan Overture, Op.62, a dramatic, concentrated piece that sets the tone. From there, the focus shifts to the Triple Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano in C major, Op.56, where the ACO is joined by Russian-Australian pianist Konstantin Shamray and ACO principal cello Timo-Veikko Valve. The concerto brings together three soloists — violin, cello and piano — playing alongside the full orchestra. The second half is dedicated to the Symphony No.6 in F major, Op.68, better known as the Pastoral, one of Beethoven's most beloved works.
The ACO describes the Pastoral as a love letter to the countryside, designed to make the audience feel nature rather than just hear it. It's a piece that takes its time, evoking the outdoors in a way that's meant to be felt as much as listened to. The whole programme is curated by Artistic Director and lead violin Richard Tognetti, who's known for the ACO's explosive performances and adventurous cross-artform collaborations.

Tognetti's a well-known figure beyond Australia, too — he previously served as Artistic Director of Slovenia's Festival Maribor and was the first Artist-in-Residence at the Barbican Centre's Milton Court. The concert starts at 19:30, with tickets from A$49.
