Artist Talk A.A.Murakami

A.A.Murakami are coming to the Newcastle Art Gallery for an artist talk on Saturday 17 October, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. The name is a collaborative practice between Azusa Murakami and Alexander Groves, and the talk focuses on the ideas behind their installation New Spring.

Their work sits at the intersection of art, science and technology, and they're known for building immersive environments from ephemeral materials and self-devised technologies. They work with bubbles, vapour, light and sound, turning them into encounters that challenge how we understand nature and perception. Much of that comes through their ephemeral technology series, which looks at the beauty and fragility of transient phenomena and asks us to think about time, transformation and our relationship with the natural world.

Since the talk centres on New Spring, it's a good chance to hear them talk through the thinking that went into that particular piece and how it fits into the wider themes they've been working with. If you've seen their installations before, this is the part where they pull back the curtain on how they actually put them together.

Tickets are A$22.50 for Foundation members and concessions, and A$25 for general admission. The talk runs from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at the Newcastle Art Gallery on Saturday 17 October.
