A flamenco concert blending Spanish guitar and dance, featuring the world premiere of 'Al Andalus' by Paco Lara, as part of the Newcastle Music Festival.
Paco Lara brings Al Andalus to the Harold Lobb Concert Hall on Saturday 15 August, as part of the 2026 Newcastle Music Festival. It's the penultimate event of the festival, so it sits right near the end of the run. The night is built around flamenco dance and Spanish guitar, with Lara on guitar and a group of flamenco dancers sharing the stage.
The centrepiece of the evening is the world premiere of Al Andalus, a work the organisers have highlighted as a standout of the programme. It's the first time it's being performed, so you'll be hearing it as it comes out of the studio and onto the stage. Around it, the rest of the set keeps the same blend of guitar and dance going, with the dancers and the guitar working together rather than taking turns.
On the dancing side, Lara is joined by Deya Giner, Bryon Mark, Lauren Majarrés, and Sebastián Sánchez. That's four dancers on the floor, so the choreography should have plenty of room to move. With Lara on guitar, the whole thing stays within that flamenco tradition — the guitar driving the rhythm and the dancers responding to it.

It runs from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Harold Lobb Concert Hall, inside the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music at the corner of Laman and Auckland Streets. Tickets are A$29 to A$59, with open seating, so you can pick your spot on the night.
