A high-energy theatrical show celebrating Irish culture with traditional storytelling, music and dance, featuring former World Irish dance champions.
A Taste of Ireland plays the Civic Theatre on Sunday 6 September, a matinee starting at 4:00pm. It's the flagship production of the A Taste of Ireland Company, brought over from Off-Broadway and London's West End. The show is a celebration of Irish culture that mixes traditional storytelling with contemporary performance, and it's built around Irish music and dance.
The cast includes former World Irish dance champions and performers from some of the biggest names in the genre: Lord of the Dance, Riverdance and the West End hit Éireann. On stage, that translates to melodic folk mash-ups, live acapella tap battles and a good deal of Irish humour. You'll hear songs like 'Danny Boy', 'Tell Me Ma' and 'The Wild Rover' worked into the set, so there are a few familiar tunes in the mix alongside the dancing.
Behind the scenes, the production is the work of Brent Pace, CEO and producer, and Ceili Pace, executive producer. Ceili is a former Irish dance world champion herself, and she once danced the lead role of Morrighan alongside Michael Flatley in Riverdance. That's a fair bit of the tradition she's coming from, and it's that same world — the big stages and the world-class dancing — that the show draws on.

It's a matinee, so it's an afternoon thing rather than a late night. Tickets range from A$54.90 to A$94.90, and the show runs at the Civic Theatre on Hunter Street in Newcastle.
