A family-friendly STEAM festival featuring hands-on science and engineering activities, Victorian-era mansion tours, and educational stations on the grounds of Belle Meade.
The Tennessee STEAM Festival takes over Belle Meade Historic Site this Saturday, October 10, from 10 AM to 4 PM. It's a full day of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, and the whole thing is tied to the history of the site itself.
The day starts inside the 1850s Greek Revival mansion. You'll tour the house and learn about the technology of the Victorian Era, seeing firsthand how people lived and worked back then. From there, the action moves outside to the grounds, where you'll find a series of hands-on activity stations. There's a popsicle-stick bridge to build, color-changing milk, a paper walking horse, a paper-plate greenhouse, and a 3D cardstock structure. It's the kind of setup where you can drift between the house and the activities at your own pace, so you don't have to do everything in one go.
If you want to make the mansion tour a priority, they run at 10:15 AM, 12:45 PM and 2:45 PM, which gives you plenty of room to work around the activity stations. Since the festival runs until 4 PM, you've got a wide window to fit in a tour and still have time for the projects on the grounds.
