A sensory-friendly Sunday hour at the Frist Art Museum with lowered sound levels, lighter crowds, and multisensory carts for visitors of all ages.
The Frist Art Museum opens an hour early for its Sensory Sunday Hour on Sunday, October 11, from 12 PM to 1 PM. It's a sensory-friendly session: sound levels are lowered throughout the exhibitions and crowds are lighter, and you can engage with volunteers at multisensory carts in selected galleries. If you usually find museums a bit overwhelming, this is the time to go.
The hour fits into the museum's wider family programming, which includes Martin ArtQuest, the city's premiere destination for creative exploration. It's an intergenerational space with around 20 hands-on stations covering drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and animation, all staffed by art educators and volunteers. On the second Sunday of each month, the museum also hosts Family Sundays, with drop-in art activities, family tours, and multi-sensory experiences.
