Machine Girl plays Brooklyn Bowl Nashville on Friday, October 23, with support from Snõõper and yesterdayneverhappened. It's a full night of electronic-leaning music, and the lineup covers a fair bit of ground before the main act even takes the stage.
Machine Girl has evolved into a trio: Matt Stephenson on vocals and production, Sean Kelly on drums, and Lucy Caputi on guitar. They describe their sound as a fusion of punk and electronics, and the setlist will pull from a wide range of their work. The project first broke through with Stephenson's 2014 debut LP Wlfgrl, which produced tracks like "Mg1" and has since racked up more than 43 million Spotify streams. 2024's MG Ultra earned their strongest critical acclaim to date, with Pitchfork calling it the soundtrack to a "final boss level," and it set the stage for 2025's PsychoWarrior: MG Ultra, a follow-up to Mg1. Across the years, the sound has spanned breakcore, electronic, industrial, and experimental punk.
Opening the night is Snõõper, a kinetic duo made up of musician Connor Cummins and visual artist Blair Tramel. Joining them is yesterdayneverhappened, an artist and DJ whose work ranges from footwork and jungle to speed house and breaks, and who is also a driving force behind the label Daybreak. Between the two, the openers lean heavily into the dance and club side of the bill.
