Stand-up comedy night with David G. Smith, Amelia White and Kevin Gordon at The Bluebird Cafe.
David G. Smith plays in-the-round at The Bluebird Cafe on Tuesday, October 13, with East Nashville's Amelia White and Kevin Gordon joining him. There's also a special guest to be announced. Smith is a songwriter from Blue Grass, Iowa, and he's been returning to the Bluebird since 1999. He remembers watching some of the venue's earliest in-the-round shows there back in the 1980s, and he describes the room as close as he can get to a meaningful church, a place where "the truth is gospel."
He'll be playing new music from Hero Street, his 2026 release, alongside the other two. Smith lists White and Gordon as influences, and puts them in the same conversation as Keith Richards, Levon Helm, Irma Thomas and First Americans' Todd Snyder. It's a lineup that pulls from different corners of the songwriting tradition, all sharing the same stage.
