A hands-on relief-printing session where participants learn the letterpress process using hand-carved blocks to print on provided items or their own.
Hatch Show Print is hosting its Family Block Party on Sunday, October 11, from 10 AM to 12 PM. If you've walked past the shop on Rep. John Lewis Way, you know the nameโit's one of the oldest poster and design shops in the country, and they're still printing show posters for musicians and bands one at a time on a letterpress. This session lets you step inside and work with the same tools they use every day.
The Block Party is a hands-on relief-printing workshop led by the shop's own designers. You'll work with hand-carved printing blocks and walk through the whole relief-printing process: composing an image, layering colors, slinging the ink, and rolling the brayers. Every piece is made by hand, and the shop describes the experience as designing 'like it's 1879.'
