A guided nature walk to identify and learn about fungi in the woods and fields, led by Will Chamberlain at Warner Park Nature Center.
Warner Park Nature Center is hosting a Family Fungi Walk on Friday, October 16, from 10 AM to 11:30 AM. It's a guided walk through the woods and fields to look for fungi, led by Will Chamberlain. The walk is open to all ages, so it's one of those outings you can actually bring the kids along for.
The center describes itself as a living laboratory where people and nature come together, and this walk is part of the free programming they run throughout the year. It's a good way to get a closer look at the things that usually go unnoticed on the forest floor, with Chamberlain leading the way to help identify what you find. The walk takes you through the woods and fields, so you'll be moving between the cover of the trees and the more open ground.
There's a fair bit of ground around the center to explore. It serves as a jump-off point for more than 3,100 acres across Nashville's Burch Reserve, Percy Warner, and Edwin Warner Parks, and it works as a natural history and education reference for individuals and groups. Beyond the walks, it's also a resource for organic gardening and native plant landscaping. The center's mission is to provide quality environmental education and responsible recreation, to help protect, preserve, restore and manage the park ecosystem, and to raise awareness and share enthusiasm for the natural environment.
