An all-ages nature activity where participants explore the woodland around the Nature Center, hunt for creatures and build homes for fairy friends.
Fairy Forest is coming to the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center on Tuesday, October 13, from 10 AM to 11 AM. It's an all-ages activity, so it's one of those things you can bring the kids to on a weekday morning. The session starts with a walk through the woodland around the Center, where you'll hunt for the fantastic little creatures that might live there. After that, you'll use your imagination to build homes for fairy friends, and the whole thing wraps up with a question for the group: are gnomes or fairies more likely to call Shelby Bottoms home?
If you've never been, the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center is an environmental education and recreation facility run by the Nashville Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation. It sits in urban East Nashville as the gateway to more than 950 acres of Shelby Bottoms Greenway and 336 acres of adjacent Shelby Park. Inside, there are natural and cultural history exhibits, programming, and art and photography exhibition space, along with a library of field identification guides and children's books. You'll also find an organic demonstration garden, a Cumberland River Compact rain garden, and a children's Nature Play area. The Center offers free public nature and environmental education programs, school field trips, volunteer opportunities, and B-Cycle rentals.
