A celebration of Mexican and Latin American traditions with music, dance, art and cuisine at Cheekwood Estate & Gardens.
El Día de los Muertos comes to Cheekwood Estate & Gardens on Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1, from 9 AM to 5 PM both days. It's a celebration of the Mexican and Latin American tradition of honoring ancestors while celebrating the continuance of life, and it takes over the grounds for the whole weekend.
If you've never come across it, Día de los Muertos is one of the most important celebrations in Mexico and Latin America. It's not a somber thing; it's about remembering the people who've passed with love and respect, and that spirit carries over into how Cheekwood sets the whole thing up. The grounds fill with colorful decorations and elaborate displays, and there's music and dance going on throughout. You can walk through the art activities and pick up some authentic cuisine while you're there, so it's as much about eating and doing as it is about watching.
It's a family-friendly weekend, and the timing makes it easy to fit in. Since it runs from 9 AM to 5 PM on both Saturday and Sunday, you can drop in for a few hours one day or spend a good chunk of both. The grounds are open and the activities are spread out, so you can move at your own pace.
