Country music star Dierks Bentley performs at The Justice Jam, a charity concert supporting the Tennessee Innocence Project, with special guests including Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready.
Dierks Bentley plays Cannery Hall on Tuesday, October 27, as part of a charity concert called The Justice Jam. It's billed as the first of its kind, a night that channels Nashville's music community toward support for people wrongfully convicted of crimes. The show is hosted by the Tennessee Innocence Project and the Washington Innocence Project, two organizations that provide legal representation to people innocent of the crimes they were convicted of and campaign for reforms to prevent future wrongful convictions.
Bentley isn't the only name on the bill. He's joined by Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, who helped organize the concert, and a list of surprise guests. The McCrary Sisters, Terri Clark, Angie K, Jaid Joice, and Bobby Messano are also performing, so it's more of a full night of music than a single set. The mix of country, rock, and gospel voices on one stage is a good reflection of the community the organizers are drawing from.
There's a specific reason for the gathering. Tennessee Innocence Project executive director Jason Gichner described the night as bringing the stage together with partners to show what is possible when artists lend their voice to justice. McCready said he was honored to support the organizations while sharing the stage with Bentley and the other artists. The money raised goes to the legal work the two Innocence Projects do to overturn wrongful convictions and push for systemic reform.
