Nashville Ballet presents a vibrant choreographic work inspired by the paintings of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, celebrating family, life and shared humanity.
Nashville Ballet brings Día de los Muertos back to The Martin Center for Nashville Ballet from Wednesday, October 28 to Sunday, November 1, 2026. The choreography is by Maria A. Konrad, set to music by various artists, with scenic design by Nick Embree and costumes by Carolina Fernandez. It's a return by popular demand—the work completely sold out in 2024, so if you missed it then, this is your second chance.
The piece takes its inspiration from the paintings of Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, blending vivid choreography, soul-stirring music, and vibrant Mexican tradition into a celebration of family, all parts of life, and shared humanity. It's billed as a source of sheer joy that bridges tradition with Nashville's cultural landscape, and the focus on family and the cycle of life keeps it grounded even as the costumes and music lean into the festive side of the holiday.
Beyond the main performances, the run includes a Homeschool Day for students aged 10 to 17. Those who sign up get to explore the artistry and discipline of dance through interactive workshops, guided movement classes, and educational discussions led by professional artists, so it's a good option if you're looking for something more hands-on for a younger dancer.
