All-ages square dancing to kick off MNPS Fall Break, led by volunteers with a caller and live band.
Shelby Bottoms Nature Center is hosting a Community Square Dance on Friday, October 9, from 5 PM to 6 PM. It's an all-ages dance to kick off MNPS Fall Break, and you don't need to know a do-si-do going in. A caller and a live band walk everyone through the steps as you go, so if you've never square danced before, you'll be just fine. Volunteers Amanda Healan and Brent Fernandez are leading the session, and no registration is requiredโyou just show up.
After the dancing, the group heads over to Fridays By The River to support the Friends of Shelby. If you're not familiar with the spot, the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center is an environmental education and recreation facility run by the Nashville Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation. It's tucked into urban East Nashville within the more than 950-acre Shelby Bottoms Greenway and 336-acre Shelby Park. Inside, you'll find natural and cultural history exhibits, an organic demonstration and teaching garden, and a children's Nature Play area, along with trails throughout the grounds.

Beyond the exhibits, the center serves as a reference point for organic and urban community gardening, rain gardening, and green building. They run free public nature and environmental education programs, host school field trips, and offer volunteer opportunities. B-Cycle bike rentals are also available on-site, so it's easy to explore the surrounding greenway before or after you visit. The dance is free, and it runs from 5 PM to 6 PM on Friday, October 9, at 1900 Davidson St, Nashville, TN 37206.
