A 5th annual 7K run across the grounds of Andrew Jackson's Hermitage, a National Historic Landmark, with a two-mile walk option available.
The 7th President 7K Run returns to Andrew Jackson's Hermitage on Saturday, October 17, for its fifth year. The race starts at 8 AM, and the course takes you across the grounds of the National Historic Landmark that was the home of the nation's seventh president. It's a cross-country run, so you'll be switching between paved paths, open fields, and a short stretch of trail, passing several of the property's historic sites along the way.
Two of those sites stand out on the route. You'll pass Tulip Grove Mansion, once the home of Rachel Jackson's nephew, and the Hermitage Church, which was built in 1824 for the surrounding community. The run finishes at the Hermitage Mansion itself, so you end up right where the whole estate centers. If you're not up for the full distance, there's a two-mile walk option offered alongside the 7K.
There are a few things to keep in mind before you sign up. The race isn't chip-timedβit runs to a rolling clock, so your time is measured from the moment you cross the start line. Strollers are discouraged, and dogs aren't allowed on the course during the race, though leashed dogs are welcome on the grounds afterward. All proceeds go to the Andrew Jackson Foundation, which works to preserve The Hermitage, create educational opportunities, and inspire informed citizenship.
