DJ set by Zack Fox with special guests echo and DAZZLE at the historic First Avenue venue.
Zack Fox is bringing a DJ set to First Avenue on Thursday, October 15, with echo and DAZZLE joining him on the bill. If you've mostly known him as a comedian, this is a different side of the thing. He's an Atlanta-raised comedian and rapper who works across visual art, comedy, and hip-hop, and this night is built around the music.
His sets sit within the Black American dance continuum, drawing on Detroit techno, ghetto tech, Chicago juke, Jersey club, and Southern bass. It's a specific lineage of dance music, and having it in the Mainroom puts it in a space that's been the center of live music in Minneapolis since 1970.
Fox has a fair amount of ground behind him. He's performed stand-up across the country alongside Jak Knight, Quinta Brunson, and Jaboukie Young-White, and GQ named him one of the '7 Funny People Reshaping Comedy Right Now' in its June 2019 issue. On the music side, his mental-health anthem 'Jesus Is The One (I Got Depression),' with Kenny Beats, hit the top of Spotify's US Viral Charts, and his earlier track 'Square Up' also went viral. He's written for The Eric Andre Show and co-wrote and starred in Flying Lotus' horror-comedy Kuso, which premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
