Live show by the Minnesota duo The Scarlet Goodbye with support from singer-songwriter Holy Hannah! at The Aster Cafe.
The Scarlet Goodbye play The Aster Cafe on Saturday, October 24, with support from Holy Hannah!. The headliner is a collaboration between two Minnesota musicians, Daniel Murphy and Jeff Arundel, and the two are sharing the bill with Hannah von der Hoff, who performs under the name Holy Hannah!
Murphy and Arundel came together by chance. Murphy is known for his foundational roles in Soul Asylum and Golden Smog; Arundel is an established singer-songwriter and producer. The partnership took shape in an attic studio in St. Paul, where the two began matching musical wits and blending their distinct perspectives. That's the core of the project: two musicians from different backgrounds working through songs in a shared space.
Opening the night is Holy Hannah!, the stage name of Minneapolis-bred singer-songwriter Hannah von der Hoff. She performs as a solo electric act, and the comparisons have run a wide range: Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Florence & The Machine, and Ricky Lee Jones. It's a broad list that points toward a singer-songwriter who isn't afraid of a loud guitar or a big voice.
