Live jazz set by The Neighborhood Quartet, the 2026 MSP House Band, at the Aster Cafe on St. Anthony Main.
The Neighborhood Quartet play the Aster Cafe on Friday, October 30. It's a full quartet: vibraphonist Steve Roehm, guitarist Dan Schwartz, bassist Nick Salisbury, and drummer Greg Schutte. Each of them is an in-demand player in their own right, and their collective credits include work with the New Standards, Chastity Brown, Ryan Bingham, and Dan Navarro.
As a group, they describe themselves as improvisers who navigate jazz harmony and writers who craft folklike melodies. Their self-titled debut album pairs sticky melodies over supple funk with ethereal ballads rooted in the Twin Cities. That contrast—the funkier, more rhythmic side and the slower, atmospheric ballads—is a good way to get a sense of what they bring to the stage.
They've also had a big year in the local scene: The Neighborhood Quartet was named 'The MSP House Band' for 2026, a title that lands them a regular slot at MSP - Terminal 1 in St. Paul on the last Monday of each month throughout the year. This Aster Cafe date is one of their other appearances around town.
