Weekly open jam session at the North Loop venue Berlin, with a house drum kit and Steinway piano and musicians invited to bring their own instruments.
The Cherry Pit Open Jam is back at Berlin on Wednesday, October 21, starting at 10 PM. It's a weekly session at the North Loop venue, which has been running for over 75 weeks now, and it's open to musicians and music lovers alike.
The house band for the night is Marvelous on piano, Dave Power on drums, Henry Breen on bass, and Jovon Williams on saxophone. They provide the foundation for the rest of the evening: musicians are invited to bring their own instruments, and a house drum kit and a Steinway baby grand piano are always on hand. Non-players are welcome too, so you can just come and listen if that's your speed.
Berlin describes the jam as a social hub for local creatives, working as a training ground to refine musicianship and a vehicle for high-vibrational improvisation. It sits somewhere between a free-form basement jam and a strict jazz jam, searching for an equilibrium between fun and excellence. The night is made possible by support from Blue Fox Arts.
