Monthly open jam hosted by the non-profit SPACE BETWEEN and musician Will Effertz, with instruments provided, on the fourth Tuesday of every month.
The Space Between Jam is back at The Hook and Ladder on Tuesday, November 24, from 7 PM to 10 PM. It's an open jam hosted by the non-profit Space Between and Minneapolis local Will Effertz, and it happens on the fourth Tuesday of every month. The whole point is to bring together musicians from across the community to share their love of music, so whether you're a regular or just looking for a place to play, you're welcome.
One of the best things about this jam is that you don't have to lug all your gear in. They provide a drum set, guitar and bass amps, and other instruments, though you're more than welcome to bring your own if you prefer. It's run as an open, judgment-free session, which takes a lot of the pressure off if you're just getting back into playing or want to try something new. If you're a regular with the organization, there's one detail to keep in mind: priority is given to musicians who attend Space Between's music industry peer group meetup, which happens on the second Tuesday of the month.
That meetup is part of what Space Between does beyond the jam. It's a peer-to-peer support program for music industry professionals and everyone who makes the music possible, and they work to strengthen the community through workshops, support groups, advocacy, outreach, live performance, and mental health awareness. The organization was founded by mental health professional Mark Femling, LPCC, and that focus on support carries over into the jam itself. It's less about showing off and more about getting together and playing.

The jam runs from 7 PM to 10 PM at The Hook and Ladder Theater (Hook and Ladder Event Center), 3010 Minnehaha Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55406. If you're a musician looking for a low-stakes way to get out and play, it's a good one to keep on your radar.
