IE closes its October residency at Berlin with a full-band show, joined by the electronic duo Material.
IE (pronounced 'eee') are back at Berlin on Sunday, October 25, for a full-band performance that closes out their residency. The night is presented by KFAI, and the group has been curating Sunday nights at Berlin throughout October, bringing in new artists each week; this date is the finale.
They'll be previewing new songs from their fourth album, which is currently in progress on Quindi. It's a full-band set: keyboardist Michael Gallope, singer/bassist/flutist Mariel Oliveira, guitarist/percussionist Sam Molstad, guitarist/keyboardist Travis Workman, and drummer Meredith Gill. Joining them is Material, the electronic duo formed in Minneapolis in 2015 by Tim Krause and Sam Molstad, who explore new age and dystopian aesthetics through improvisation and musical machines, drawing on Germany's 1970s Kosmische movement.
IE is a Twin Cities experimental group that's spent nine years working with hypnotic minimalism, drawing on meditative drone and groove-based psychedelia. Over that time they've put out three cassettes of minimal drone, a live recording of Terry Riley's Keyboard Study No. 2, and three full-length albums: Pome, Junk Body, and Reverse Earth. This show is the first look at what comes next.
