Bluegrass trio Mountain Grass Unit from Birmingham, Alabama, plays the Fine Line in the Warehouse District.
Mountain Grass Unit plays Fine Line on Sunday, November 22, as part of their Appalachian Smoke Tour. It's an "evening with" bill, so they're the only act on the program.
The trio comes from Birmingham, Alabama, and has made a name for itself as one of the more electrifying young bands in modern bluegrass. They're built around razor-sharp picking, fearless improvisation, and four-part harmony. The lineup is Drury Anderson on mandolin and vocals, Luke Black on acoustic guitar and banjo, and Sam Wilson on upright bass. While bluegrass is their home, they pull in country, jazz, funk, rock, and even metal, covering everything from Tony Rice and the Grateful Dead to contemporary acoustic masters like Billy Strings.
Birmingham promoter Steve Masterson, who saw them at his Acoustic CafƩ festival, put it plainly: "They don't just play good for their age, they play good. Period."
