Theatrical dance work by Leslie Cuyjet that combines choreography and theatrical satire to critique the life insurance industry and racial capitalism.
Leslie Cuyjet brings For All Your Life to the McGuire Theater at the Walker Art Center from February 18 to 20, 2027. It's a theatrical dance work that takes a hard look at the life insurance industry and its ties to the transatlantic slave trade, and it's part of the Walker's 2026-27 performing arts season.
Cuyjet builds the piece around a parodic portrait of a corporate shill, pitching the audience a "one-of-a-kind investment opportunity" as a way to critique racial capitalism. It starts as an ironic art film, with Cuyjet playing a suite of glossy corporate shills on screen. From there, the action moves to the stage, where the facade begins to crack and the performance shifts into a combination of choreography and theatrical satire. The whole thing functions as both an informational film and a sales pitch, aimed at the life insurance industry and its connection to the slave trade.
For All Your Life is part of the Walker's Out There 2027 series of experimental art, and it falls within the 2026-27 performing arts season curated by McGuire director and senior curator of performing arts Philip Bither. The New York Times called it "a tour de force."
