The all-male comic ballet company Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo returns to Northrop for its eighth performance at the venue.
Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo return to Northrop on Thursday, February 11, 2027. They're known as the Trocks, and this will be their eighth performance at the venue, their first since April 2000.
They call themselves "the world's foremost gender-skewering comic ballet company," and that's a fair summary of what they do. They stage playful parodies of the classical repertoire with men in all the roles, mixing slapstick, farce, and clowning with technically precise dance. The joke is the point, but the dancing is realβthey're as capable of a proper pirouette as any company, which is what makes the comedy land. Critics have called them "thrilling and hilarious," "an international treasure," and "one of the most unusually gifted dance companies in existence."
There's a bit of history behind the act, too. The Trocks were founded in New York in 1974, in the wake of the Stonewall Uprising. That origin story informs the whole thing: the gender-bending is part of the DNA, not just a costume choice. If you want a closer look at how they work, there's a 2021 documentary called Ballerina Boys that follows the company.
