Panel discussion, food tasting, and art exploration celebrating immigrant communities at the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
Kitchens of Hope: Immigrant Stories, Food, and Art comes to the Minneapolis Institute of Art on Sunday, October 25, from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM. It's an afternoon that pairs a tasting of recipes with a panel discussion featuring the people who contributed them.
The event centers on the book Kitchens of Hope, which brings together recipes and memories from immigrants to America hailing from more than thirty countries. The book is structured around the contributors' personal stories of their journeys, and it touches on community, resilience, opportunity, justice, hope, and celebration. It's drawn praise from Mayukh Sen, Anya von Bremzen, and James Beard Award-winning author Grace Young, who call it more than a cookbook—a social history and a celebration of America's culinary traditions.
On the day, you'll get to taste some of those recipes and hear from the people behind them. The panel includes Lee Svitak Dean, Rashmi Bhattachan, Nadya Goncharova, Ingrid Kubisa, and Jesus Li. It's a chance to hear the stories that go with the food, rather than just reading them on the page.
