Dance piece by Kimberly Bartosik in which five dancers explore grief and the communal processing of trauma, set to a score by Sivan Jacobovitz.
Kimberly Bartosik brings her dance piece bLUr to the Walker Art Center on Friday, March 5, and Saturday, March 6, 2027. Both performances begin at 7:30 PM in the McGuire Theater, part of the Walker's 2026-2027 performing arts season. The piece runs approximately 45 minutes.
Bartosik, a choreographer and dancer, describes bLUr as a space for the communal processing of trauma. The piece puts five dancers into what she calls the unforgiving topography of grief: their bodies shake, snake, stumble and slide as they move between cycles of anguish and hope. It's a physically intense work that asks what it means to love, how to stay resilient as a community, and how to build meaningful systems of care together. The movement does a lot of the talking here, so you'll want to be there in person to see how those five dancers handle that ground.
Working alongside her is Sivan Jacobovitz, of Shamel Pitts | TRIBE, who composed the score. It's described as haunting, and it sets the tone for the whole piece. Between the score and the physicality, the work is less about a story and more about the feeling of moving through something heavy with other people.
