Joel Shapira's Maggie's Maison with Benny Weinbeck

Joel Shapira is playing Maggie's Piano Lounge on Saturday, October 24, with Benny Weinbeck on piano. It's a guitar-and-piano duo, and for anyone who knows Shapira's work, that's a bit of a shift from the solo guitar sets he's best known for.

Shapira is a Twin Cities native who's spent the last several years living and playing in Paris. He's built a reputation there on solo guitar—a demanding discipline that leaves nowhere to hide—and he's got a number of recordings to his name. These days he's involved in several new jazz projects in France, and he plays regularly with world-class musicians. This is one of those dates that brings him back home to the Twin Cities for a night.

The evening is presented by Crooners Supper Club at Maggie's Piano Lounge, which they describe as a warm, relaxed, and inviting room that books a variety of talented musicians. It's run by host Dane Stauffer and 'The Masters of Improv.'

Doors open at 5 PM for dinner and drink service, and the music runs from 5 PM to 7 PM. Seating is bar and table with no reservations, so if you want a particular spot, you'll want to get there early. There's no cover charge for the show.
