Liquid Music | Northrop Series concert with Rothko String Quartet, Andrew Yee and Aaron David Miller.
inti figgis-vizueta brings Music for Transitions to Northrop on Tuesday, December 8, as part of the Liquid Music series. It's a full evening of her own work, with cellist Andrew Yee, the Rothko String Quartet, and organist Aaron David Miller on the Northrop pipe organ. The night opens with wayra (wind), performed by Miller on the Aeolian-Skinner organ, a piece originally commissioned by the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
The title of the evening comes from Music for Transitions, figgis-vizueta's first full-length album of exclusively her own works, recorded with the Rothko String Quartet and due out in November 2026. The album builds on her 2020 cello quartet of the same name, whose title track premiered that year and was performed entirely by Andrew Yee. That title track is the same one that gives the whole project its name, and Yee returns for this performance.
Figgis-vizueta's music draws on a childhood spent in the immigrant communities and Black-founded Freedom Schools of Washington, D.C., alongside her direct Andean Quichua and Irish heritage. She weaves those complex historical aesthetics together with trans and Indigenous futures, and the LA Times has called her an "ever-intriguing, rising new music star."
