The Minnesota Orchestra, conducted by Jane Glover with the Minnesota Chorale and four soloists, performs Handel's oratorio 'Messiah' at Orchestra Hall.
The Minnesota Orchestra brings Handel's Messiah to Orchestra Hall on Friday, December 18, and Saturday, December 19. It's the oratorio that gave us the "Hallelujah" Chorus and "For Unto Us a Child Is Born," and it's become a staple of the holiday season here.
Conductor Jane Glover leads the orchestra, with the Minnesota Chorale and four soloists: soprano Lauren Snouffer, mezzo Clara Osowski, tenor Eric Ferring, and bass-baritone Michael Sumuel. The Chorale has served as the orchestra's principal chorus since 2004 and is now in its 29th season under Kathy Saltzman Romey. Founded in 1972, it's Minnesota's preeminent symphonic chorus, with more than 200 singers and a history of touring with the orchestra, including performances in Soweto and Johannesburg in 2018.
Jane Glover has been music director of Music of the Baroque since 2002 and was named Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2021 New Year's Honours. Soprano Lauren Snouffer is known as one of the most versatile sopranos on the international stage, with a repertoire that runs from Monteverdi and Handel to Missy Mazzoli and Sir George Benjamin. Orchestra Hall, which opened in 1974, is a cultural and architectural landmark in downtown Minneapolis, renowned for its acoustics.
