Annual Halloween celebration at Schooner Tavern with live music from Slovczech and Ukrainian Village Band, 21+.
Ukrainian Village Band is back at Schooner Tavern on Friday, October 30, for their annual Halloween celebration. It's a double bill: Slovczech opens at 8 PM, and UVB takes over around 9 PM. The night is built for dancing, so come ready to move.
If you're not familiar with them, Ukrainian Village Band is a Twin Cities ensemble rooted in Ukrainian folk and the zabava wedding tradition. They play Ukrainian roots music and contemporary Ukrainian songs alongside popular American and European covers, so the set pulls from a few different worlds. It's a broad reach, and they've been at it for a while.
Beyond the stage, the band does a fair amount of work for the local scene. They promote Ukrainian and Canadian acts in Minnesota and produce the Borscht Boys, which they bill as the next generation of Ukrainian folk in the Twin Cities. For more than 15 years they've organized Ivana Kupala, promoted as Minnesota's largest Ukrainian summer solstice festival, and the group also raises awareness and funds for war relief across the Twin Cities.
