Live jazz, blues and R&B cabaret show by singer and flutist Erin Livingston at Volstead's Emporium Uptown.
Erin Livingston plays Volstead's Emporium Uptown on Saturday, October 24, with the show running from 8:30 to 11:30 PM. It's a cabaret set that pulls from jazz, blues, and R&B, and if you've seen her around the city, you know she's a singer who works across a few different worlds at once.
Livingston has spent years building her following through residencies at The St. Paul Hotel, Erté & The Peacock Lounge, and Flat Earth Brewery. She's also a classically trained flutist—she earned her Associates in Classical Flute Performance from the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music as a high school senior—and she teaches in the Voice Department at MacPhail Center for Music. That combination of a formal music background and a long history of playing the city's lounges is a good way to get a sense of where she's coming from.
Her work isn't all standard cabaret, either. She's written and performed a show about the many facets of homelessness, which debuted at Hook & Ladder Theater, and she does a tribute to Helen Reddy with a ten-piece band that first appeared at Crooners Supper Club. She also takes her music to senior centers and veterans' homes around the Twin Cities. Outside of music, she's a certified Reiki Master Teacher/Practitioner and an EFT Tapping practitioner.
