Vinyl DJ Grady (Not Grady) mixes disco, jazz, punk and electronic music for Halloween at Animales BBQ Co.
DJ Grady (Not Grady) is spinning vinyl at Animales BBQ Co. on Saturday, October 31, from 6 PM to 9 PM. It's a Halloween night set, and since he works from records, you'll be hearing a real collection on the turntables rather than a digital playlist.
Grady has been collecting and DJing for more than 20 years, and he's come a long way to get to Minneapolis. He got his start in Chicago's early-2000s artist-loft scene, mixing records between noise-rock acts at Texas Ballroom, the live/work/performance space he lived in and co-managed. In the mid-aughts he moved to Honolulu, where he spent over five years as a resident at Waikiki EDITION and thirtyninehotel, playing alongside Prins Thomas, James Murphy, Thomas Bullock, Eric Duncan, DJ Garth and DJ Harvey. Since settling in Minneapolis, he's played The Lowry, Steady Pour, Beast Barbeque for Housewerk, Dusty's Bar for The Nitty Gritty and moto-i for Hi-Fi Pop-Up.
He describes his approach as connecting the dots between disco, jazz, punk and electronic music, so the set should pull from a few different corners of his record collection. If you've caught him at any of those other spots around town, you know the range he works with.
