Discovery Series presentation with curator Kelly Connole and a virtual conversation with the participating artists.
Kelly Connole is leading a curator talk and virtual panel titled To Be Human at the Northern Clay Center on Wednesday, October 21. It's part of the center's Discovery Series, which usually brings in artists and curators to talk through their work rather than just hanging it on the wall and leaving you to figure it out on your own.
The evening has two parts. First, Connole takes the floor to talk about the exhibition she curated, walking through the ideas and the artists that brought it together. After that, the conversation opens up: a virtual panel with the artists themselves, who join in from wherever they are to talk about their own work and the themes of the show. If you've seen the exhibition and found yourself wondering why certain pieces sit next to each other, or what the artists were actually thinking when they made them, this is where you'll get those answers.
It's a good way to get a bit more context before you walk back through the gallery. Instead of just reading the wall text, you get to hear the curator explain the connective tissue and the artists talk through their process in their own words. If you're into the making side of things—how a show comes together from a first idea to a finished room—that's exactly what this is.
