Candlelight: Mozart vs Beethoven

The Listeso String Quartet takes the stage at The Westminster Presbyterian Sanctuary on Friday, November 20, for a Candlelight concert pairing Mozart and Beethoven. It's a string quartet arrangement of two of the most recognizable names in classical music, played under candlelight in one of downtown's most distinct spaces.

The program is a tentative mix of the two composers. From Mozart, the quartet will run through Piano Sonata No. 11 'Alla Turca', The Marriage of Figaro overture, Symphony No. 25, Eine kleine Nachtmusik, and Symphony No. 40. Beethoven's side of the bill is just as familiar: Moonlight Sonata, Pathétique, Für Elise, The Ruins of Athens 'Turkish March', String Quartet No. 4, Symphony No. 7, Symphony No. 9 'Ode to Joy', and Symphony No. 5. It's a broad sweep of their catalogs, and since it's a string quartet, you'll hear these pieces reimagined for four strings rather than a full orchestra.

The venue is part of the draw. The Westminster Presbyterian Sanctuary is a 1,500-capacity historic church in downtown Minneapolis, listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its Gothic and Romanesque architecture. It's known for its circular design and stained glass windows, and it's frequently praised for its interior and acoustics. The space is ADA compliant.

Practical details: the show starts at 6:30 PM and runs for 60 minutes. Doors open 45 minutes before the start, and there's no entry once it begins, so you'll want to be in your seat before the first note. Tickets start at $23. The concert is recommended for ages 8 and older, and anyone under 16 needs to be accompanied by an adult. Seating is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis within each zone.
