String quartet Listesso plays Joe Hisaishi's film scores by candlelight in a tribute concert at the Luminary Arts Center.
Candlelight: The Best of Joe Hisaishi comes to the Luminary Arts Center on Sunday, January 17, 2027. It's a tribute to Joe Hisaishi, the composer whose scores have given voice to some of cinema's most beloved stories. The music is performed by the Listeso String Quartet, and the whole thing takes place by candlelight.
The program draws from Hisaishi's film work, with melodies from Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro among the highlights. It's a wide-reaching set that pulls from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, The Tale of Princess Kaguya, Ponyo, The Wind Rises, Howl's Moving Castle, and The Red Turtle. Because it's a tribute, the performance isn't associated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Hisaishi or his representatives.
The venue is the Luminary Arts Center at 700 North 1st Street, a 6,000-square-foot warehouse turned playing space. The Guthrie Theater converted it into a 'Laboratory' for experimental and unique works, so it's a bit different from your usual concert hall. The experience is recommended for ages 8 and up, and anyone under 16 needs to be accompanied by an adult. You'll also get an instant photo in the candlelit environment.
