Candlelit tribute concert by the Listesso String Quartet of Hans Zimmer's film scores, including 'Time' from Inception and 'Gladiator Suite'.
Candlelight: The Best of Hans Zimmer comes to the McNamara Alumni Center on Sunday, October 18, with the Listeso String Quartet performing a program of Hans Zimmer's film scores under candlelight. It's a tribute concert, not affiliated with Zimmer himself, so you're hearing a quartet's take on his work rather than the composer in person.
The setlist pulls from a wide range of his most recognizable scores. You'll hear "Time" from Inception, "This Land" from The Lion King, and "Supermarine" from Dunkirk, alongside suites from Gladiator, Interstellar, Dune, and Pirates of the Caribbean. The program also covers The Pacific, The Dark Knight, "Discombobulate" from Sherlock Holmes, Man of Steel, and the Wonder Woman theme from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It's a broad sweep of his career, from the heavy brass of the superhero movies to the more atmospheric work on Interstellar and Inception.
The venue is the McNamara Alumni Center at 200 SE Oak St, on the University of Minnesota campus. It's a 1,530-capacity event center that opened in 2000, designed by Antoine Predock with copper, wood, and a geode-like exterior meant to echo Minnesota's natural landscape. The show is recommended for ages 8 and older, and anyone under 16 needs to be accompanied by an adult. Seating is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis within each zone.
