String quartet Listeso plays Joe Hisaishi's film music by candlelight at the McNamara Alumni Center.
Candlelight: The Best of Joe Hisaishi comes to the McNamara Alumni Center on Sunday, November 22, 2026. It's a tribute to Joe Hisaishi, the composer whose scores have defined some of cinema's most beloved stories, with the music performed by a string quartet under the glow of candlelight. The program runs an hour and draws from Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and more.
On the setlist are some of his most recognizable pieces: "Merry-Go-Round of Life," "Path of the Wind," "One Summer's Day," "Princess Mononoke," and "A Town with an Ocean View." The quartet is Listeso, a Minneapolis-based group, and the whole thing is a tribute experience, not associated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Hisaishi or his representatives.
The venue is the McNamara Alumni Center, located at 200 SE Oak St on the University of Minnesota campus. It's an architectural landmark inspired by Minnesota's wood, water, and copper landscapes, with a soaring Memorial Hall and a geode-like design. The concert is indoors with assigned seating.
