Panel discussion with journalists from The New York Times and the Minnesota Star Tribune about bearing witness to the events that shape a country and a community.
The New York Times is presenting a panel discussion, Bearing Witness: A Discussion About Journalism Locally and Nationally, at Northrop on Monday, October 26. The conversation centers on what it takes to bear witness to the events that shape a country and a community, and it opens with a Q&A.
Three journalists lead the panel. Patrick Healy is the Times' assistant managing editor for standards and trust. Ernesto Londoño is a Times reporter based in Minnesota who covers the Midwest; born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, he began his career in 2003 at The Dallas Morning News, moved to The Washington Post in 2005, and joined the Times in 2014. Kathleen Hennessey is the Editor and Senior Vice President of the Minnesota Star Tribune, and she's worked at both the Times and the Associated Press, where she served as AP's White House Editor and Deputy Washington Chief.
Between them, they bring together a national perspective and a deep connection to the local scene here in Minnesota. With Healy on standards and trust, Londoño reporting from the Midwest, and Hennessey leading the Star Tribune, the conversation should touch on how national reporting and local coverage overlap, and how the two work together to document what's happening in the country and in our own backyard. The Q&A at the start means you can get your own questions on the table before the main discussion takes off.
