Free indie-folk night with Anni XO, Stefan Weiner and J.E. Sunde at the speakeasy-style Volstead's Emporium Uptown.
Anni XO, Stefan Weiner, and J.E. Sunde share a bill at Volstead's Emporium Uptown on Tuesday, October 20. It's a three-songwriter night that pulls from a few different corners of indie folk, and since it's a Tuesday, it's one of those mid-week shows that doesn't ask much of your schedule.
Anni XO (they/them) is a young queer musician from Minnesota who found solace and self-expression through music, drawing inspiration from boygenius, Annie Dirusso, and Dora Jar. They weave themes of love, loss, and the trials of youth into an alternative songwriting and pop sound. Stefan Weiner is a Brooklyn-based queer indie-folk singer-songwriter whose work centers on queerness and catharsis; he won The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon's Battle of the Instant Songwriters with a very gay song about the World Cup. J.E. Sunde is an indie-folk singer-songwriter praised by Soul Kitchen, Daytrotter, Telerama, and NPR's Bob Boilen.
They're playing at Volstead's Emporium Uptown, which opened in December 2015 as a chef-driven, 21+ space paying homage to the proper speakeasies of the prohibition era. The entrance is down an alley on the backside of the building, marked by a red light. The venue also hosts its own monthly comedy showcase, 'Easy Speak'.
